50 Shades of Blue

slide3Mabley Handler Interior Design was founded in the Hamptons when Jennifer Mabley, an accomplished interior designer in New York City, was commissioned to design and decorate a house in the estate section of Southampton Village. The client had spent many summers visiting her grandparents at their home in Southampton, and yearned to return to her Southampton roots. The success of this project and love of the area inspired Jennifer Mabley and her husband, Austin Handler, a British born graphic designer at a NY advertising agency at the time, to relocate to Water Mill full-time and focus on building a design business together, centered on projects in the Hamptons. A beautiful blue and white color palette is the hallmark of Mabley Handler design.
The design duo shares the inspiration behind their blue mood with Hamptons Real Estate Showcase, “Blue and white is a classic beach house color combination that is very versatile, and can be used in traditional, transitional or contemporary design. The blues are evocative of the ocean and the sky and, depending on how you use it, it can add a punch of fun color, or create a more soothing environment. Darker tones of navy, indigo, cobalt, and royal can really punch up a room, adding contrast and dimension, creating points of interest. On the other hand, using cooler tones of dusty/grey blues can have a more calm and contemporary feel. Combining any of those tones with white helps give a space a fresh, happy, summer look. With darker shades of blue, adding white can create fun pops of contrast. Whether the style that you’re looking for is soothing skies or summer chic, blue and white is perfect beachy/nautical look for any Hamptons home.”
