Broker Showcase – Alan Schnurman of Saunders & Associates

slide3What a pleasure it was to sit and talk with Alan Schnurman of Saunders & Associates.  There is so much more to Alan then meets the eye, such as practicing law for four decades in New York City and co-founding the firm of Zalman & Schnurman.  Alan has received numerous professional honors such as hosting his own show on PBS titled, “Lawline.”

HRES: What is your business philosophy?
AS: The key to success is to know your subject matter, be credible, trustworthy and ethical. When you are a professional your clients rely on your knowledge and experience. I find out what my clients’ goals are and use my expertise to satisfy their wishes.

HRES: New construction is hot, how long do you think this will continue?
AS: New construction always leads the market. There is nothing on the horizon that indicates any change in its positive direction. Inventory is being absorbed at rates not seen since before the recession. Unemployment is decreasing and interest rates are at historical lows. When rates do start rising, it will stimulate the market even more. Buyers will want to take advantage of the new rates before they even go higher. As long as the financial markets are stable, our market will prosper.

HRES: Bragging rights. Tell us about one of your current listings?
AS: “Breathtaking Sagaponack,” the newly constructed $19,950,000 home at 233 Hedges Lane has everything you could want in a vacation home. With 9 bedrooms 10 full and 4 half baths, this smart home is an entertaining dream.  The outside area has a salt-water pool, Har-tru sunken tennis court, pool house and a fully loaded outdoor kitchen. The expansive roof deck offers spectacular views of the ocean and the reserves, or you can just sit and enjoy them off the multiple terraces throughout the house. Inside the home you have first and second floor masters, an attached guest wing and elevator.  The lower level includes a state of the art theater with a 13-foot curve screen, oversized gym with sauna and steam, entertaining kitchen, wine, billiard and recreation rooms and staff quarters.

HRES: How has your background in law helped your real estate career?
AS: I am familiar with zoning, building codes and contracts. I have over 45 years in bringing deals to conclusion and resolving challenges.

HRES: How has your experience as a developer helped you as a real estate broker?
AS: Over the last 30 years I have developed, purchased and sold some of the most significant projects in the Hamptons. That experience and my knowledge of real estate values in the Hamptons helps my clients in their decision making process. That experience and my knowledge of real estate values  helps my clients in their decision making process.

HRES: You started a scholarship for single mothers in memory of your mom.  Can you tell us when you started this and why?
AS: My father passed away when I was very young. Being raised by a single mother made me appreciate how hard it is for women to raise a family by themselves. With that in mind, my wife Judy and I provide funding for single mothers going to my alma mater New York Law School.
