Hampton HabituesGood news gossip about our notable friends and neighbors.
Spring finally sprang, though it certainly took its sweet time this year. Thank goodness it’s finally here!
One of the best things about the season, aside from the new growth and warmer weather, is that love seems to linger in the air. That certainly seems to be true given the number of recent Hamptons-related engagement announcements that we’ve seen. Of late, there’s been good news to share about Water Mill’s Katie Lee and North Haven’s Tracy Anderson. Now it’s Amagansett resident Gwyneth Paltrow’s turn.
Since famously amicably uncoupling with Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin, the Academy Award-winning actress and Goop head has found love with producer/writer/director Brad Falchuk. In April, the couple held a black-tie engagement party in Los Angeles. Those in attendance included possible parents-to-be Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden (whom I once spotted holding hands on Newtown Lane in East Hampton a few summers ago—too cute!); Georgica Lane lovebirds Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw; Paltrow’s mom, Blythe Danner, who also has a home here; and other bold-facers, such as Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, Demi Moore and Chelsea Handler. There are rumors that the wedding—if it hasn’t already happened—will be in the Hamptons this summer.
Another photogenic pair who have made homes here aren’t walking down the aisle, at least that we know of, just yet. But they did recently strut their stuff on the red carpet together for the first time. Actress Scarlett Johansson and SNL’s “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost—of Amagansett and Montauk, respectively—were joined at the hip as they smiled for the cameras at the premiere of her upcoming movie, “Avengers: Infinity War,” also in Los Angeles. Or as we like to call it, “Hamptons West.”
Before moving on, we gotta give a shout out of our very own to Blythe Danner. The busy actress, who has been steadily working since the early 1970s, has a ton of television and film projects in the works.
It’s terrific that she recently appeared as Will’s mom in the “Will & Grace” reboot, but even more excitement-inducing is her upcoming role in the film “Hearts Beat Loud” with Nick Offerman, Ted Danson and Toni Collette. To be released in June, the movie is about a father and daughter who form an unlikely songwriting duo the summer before she heads off to college. Looks like Danner will be playing grandma in this one.
Bridgehampton’s Madonna is putting her own spin on aging gracefully. The boundary-pushing singer and provocateur (who turns 60 in August!!) has been generating all sorts of buzz about her MDNA Skin line. The beauty brand, whose tagline is “Give Good Face,” has come out with a new Reinvention Cream. How perfect is that? The pop star says that she swears by the $75 multi-use cream, which is hyped to make skin look younger.
Lastly, we’re very glad to report that eternally boyish-looking Michael J. Fox, who has a house in Quogue, is on the road to recovery after having undergone spinal surgery in April. Now on the mend, the March AARP Magazine cover guy had to pull out of some recent appearances at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, sadly. But we can still catch him on this latest season of “Designated Survivor” with Kiefer Sutherland and as the voice of A.R.C.H.I.E in the upcoming animated film of the same name, which is due out this summer. No news yet on whether or not the avid golfer will make an appearance at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in June but we’re betting that he’ll be there even if he’s not yet ready to swing a stick.
