One block from the charming and historic Main Street of Sag Harbor Village and two short blocks from the Hamptons’ only deep water port, Watchcase is the transformation and restoration of a historically rich 19th-century industrial building with nine new Town Houses at its perimeter.
Built and operated for almost 100 years as a watchcase factory, the property is being reinvented as 64 meticulously crafted condominium residences, with its 19th-century architecture preserved with painstaking detail.
Watchcase offers the unprecedented opportunity for an amenity-rich lifestyle in the Hamptons, complete with a year-round saltwater pool and fitness facilities, attended lobby with concierge services, and private dining room with catering kitchen – all surrounded by elegant gardens. Resort-style condominium living of this caliber has never before existed in the Hamptons, and may never be offered again.
While much early attention has been focused on the lofts and penthouses in the factory building – more than half of which are already spoken for – Watchcase will be soon be offering its nine exquisite Town Houses for sale. Inspired by the 18th and 19th century Sea Captains’ houses that populate the Village, each gracious four to six bedroom house weaves the charm of an earlier time with the ease and comfort required by a more contemporary lifestyle.
Steven Gambrel, acclaimed AD100 interior designer and Sag Harbor resident, has worked with the development team to enhance and complement the inherent architectural and industrial qualities with all new finishes and features. Each home offers private outdoor space, many of which have sweeping views of the Village, gardens, and waterways.
The developers and architects responsible for Watchcase have insisted that historical integrity is honored at every stage.
“We wanted to bring the building back to what it could be,” explains Criag Wood, co-managing partner of Cape Advisors, the property’s developer. “We believe in old American towns. We think it makes people feel good just to be here. Buildings like this are a big reason why.”
After the decline of the whaling industry in the mid-19th century, the factory played an important role in the development of Sag Harbor Village. To retain the spirit of the original 1881 factory, Cape Advisors worked with Baldassano Architecture and Beyer Blinder Belle Architects, whose historic restoration experience includes Grand Central Terminal and The United States Capitol. Landscape design is by the award-winning Quennell Rothschild & Partners.
While buyers are drawn to the exceptional design and luxury lifestyle of Watchcase, the project team remains committed to protecting the property’s historic integrity and respecting its important position within the fabric of the Village.
