Broker Showcase – Marcia Altman

Hamptons Real Estate Showcase chats with Marcia Altman about what it takes to be a top producer for over 25 years.

HRES: As one of the more seasoned real estate agents in the Hamptons, what is it that sets you apart from the others?
MA: I am my client and customer. We are very much alike. We travel to the same destinations, dine at the same restaurants & shop the same designers. I understand their sensibilities and that makes it very easy for us to relate to each other and for me to understand their needs. Experience, integrity, credibility, creativity and honesty go a long way to solidify our relationships.

HRES:What is the most challenging aspect of being a real estate agent for you?
MA: I’ve been selling properties for 25 years now. It’s certainly not a 9-5 job. For me the challenge is finding time to turn it off. But I do love it… it comes naturally to me. It’s a gift and a curse.

HRES:What do you both like to do in the Hamptons, after selling real estate of course?
MA: My husband, Barry Altman builds houses and I sell houses.  We are both workaholics…in related businesses. When we have some time and although we adore the Hamptons, we love to get away from the consuming nature of our work and travel to fabulous places all over the world.

HRES: What is the best advice you can give a second homebuyer when searching for a vacation home in the Hamptons?
MA: Trust your instincts and act on them. If you love the house, someone else does too. In this fast paced market, second guessing yourself can mean losing the house to another buyer.

HRES: How would you describe your selling style?
MA: Professional.

HRES: Can you tell us about some of your more notable sales?
MA: Recently I sold an incredible 17,000 sq. ft. waterfront showplace on almost 4 acres in Westhampton Beach. Highest price ever attained for a single family residence on the mainland. I represented both the seller and the buyer. Another memorable sale was that of ten acres on the ocean in East Quogue. It was then subdivided and I also sold off the eight oceanfront parcels for my client.

HRES:What is the most personally satisfying part of your work?
MA: My business affords me the unique opportunity to change people’s lives in a positive way. I love the excitement of signing a new property and creating the description and advertising program for marketing. Designing, if you will, an ambiance that will project the property into the public domain in a way that will draw in the right buyer and get the deal done!
