A Day With Darlene Streit of Corcoran Palm Beach

Darlene Streit, one of the nation’s top producing brokers from Santa Fe, New Mexico has recently joined The Corcoran Group and relocated to Palm Beach. Darlene is no stranger to South Florida, having spent many years in the area for school and family. Her mother, Marlene Stewart Streit, is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and spent winters training in the Palm Beach area. Darlene’s 30+ years in the industry, combined with her deep familiarity with the market, has made joining Corcoran in Palm Beach a natural fit.   

Describe the current state of South Florida’s luxury real estate market?

Our luxury market is still very strong. We continue to see a huge influx of buyers, with the demand for luxury residences far surpassing our limited inventory. Prices have somewhat stabilized as summer is here and the season comes to an end. But the “off market” waterfront and $20M+ properties continue to set record high pricing, especially for our much-coveted land.

How have the needs and desires of South Florida home buyers changed during the course of the pandemic?

Many buyers would prefer “more square footage” whether they are purchasing a condo or single family. They would like the “extra” space for a home office or extended family member and preferring to have more space over views. Overall, there is a new wave of buyers that would prefer to only buy new construction.

What are some biggest changes you have seen in the South Florida market this past year?

Most buyers will buy properties and make offers with no mortgage contingencies, so that they’re in a better position. There’s a shortage of rentals (both short and long term) which has prompted many buyers to go ahead and buy now rather than wait to “see what happens in this market.”

Any advice for sellers in this current market?

If you want to sell, then price your property correctly from the start – with my help – and don’t try to take advantage! It can be a win-win for all parties when it is a quick and easy sale that benefits everyone.

What do you love about South Florida’s real estate industry?

It’s just always exciting and incredibly rewarding. South Florida has it all…sunshine, healthy living, and culture. I love helping sellers achieve success with their most valuable asset, and assisting buyers to find their own special slice of paradise here.

Every broker seems to have a crazy real estate story, do you have one you can tell us about?

Hmmm…I seem to only have “good” crazy stories. Super challenging deals that have come together at the last minute, almost by magic. Or following my instincts and finding that one truly perfect home that fits a client to a T. I do love the suspense, synchronicity, and joy of real estate!

What is your idea of the perfect day in South Florida?

A round of golf in the morning followed by lunch with friends on Worth Ave., leisurely strolling and shopping after, and then dining outside on a beautiful balmy, tropical evening – either at home or at a new trending restaurant. During the season, Sunday brunch and a polo match at the International Polo Club in Wellington tops off a perfect weekend.
