Spotlight on Success: Associate Broker & Senior Global Luxury Specialist
HRES: You work across both New York City and the Hamptons in the ultra-luxury market. What sets your approach apart?
Maria Avellaneda: My focus is on the ultra-luxury segment, serving both local and international high-net-worth clients. I bring a global perspective and work closely with foreign investors, developers, and discerning buyers and sellers. It’s about providing strategic guidance and a personalized, discreet experience.
HRES: You’ve closed over 100 transactions totaling approximately $500M. What’s driven that success?
Maria: It comes down to experience, consistency, and trust. I’ve been in real estate for over 15 years—12 of those as an agent—and have been honored to be ranked among America’s Best Agents and NY’s Best by Real Trends. My goal is always to deliver exceptional results with integrity and professionalism.
HRES: You were a top producer at Keller Williams NYC in 2016. What made that year so pivotal?
Maria: That year, I brought in over $2M in GCI and worked on high-profile listings—including a $50M townhouse designed by Rafael Viñoly. But what stands out most is the relationships I’ve built—with developers, clients, and fellow agents—which continue to open doors for exclusive, off-market deals.
HRES: Before real estate, you had a high-level career in finance and diplomacy. How has that influenced your work?
Maria: My background has been instrumental. I’ve served as a senior advisor to family offices and governments and worked with institutions like The World Bank, U.S. Treasury, and the United Nations. That experience sharpens my understanding of complex financials, negotiation, and long-term investment planning—especially helpful in international and high-stakes transactions.
HRES: Your family has been investing for decades. How does that shape your perspective as a broker?
Maria: Having invested personally in New York, Florida, and Latin America for 30 years, I bring a dual perspective—both as a broker and as a seasoned investor. From 1031 exchanges to equestrian estates, I understand what’s at stake and how to maximize value at every step.
HRES: You’ve been recognized by Forbes and other organizations—can you tell us more?
Maria: I’ve been honored to be named among Forbes 30 Promises and Forbes Power Women, and have spoken at the Real Estate Women’s Forum and Commercial Observer’s Women in Real Estate Finance Forum. It’s important to me to contribute to the conversation around innovation and inclusion in our industry.
HRES: What’s something people may not know about you?
Maria: I’m multilingual—fluent in English and Spanish, with working knowledge of French and Portuguese—which is invaluable when working with global clients. And I’m deeply committed to community initiatives, including my involvement with the Latin American Circle at the Guggenheim Museum.
