Super busy Sag Harbor-based supermodel Christie Brinkley has more going on than the average glamour girl. The still-in-demand stunner is also a best-selling author, entrepreneur, artist, environmental advocate and mother of three. She credits good living and her own line of skincare products for keeping her on the pages of style sections and swimsuit editions close to 40 years after nabbing her first magazine cover. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for indulgences. Her favorite? Her newest brand—Bellissima all natural, 100-percent organic and vegan Prosecco and sparkling wines. Cheers to natural beauty.
Singer songwriter Paul Simon might not like to live on the edge but it appears that his Montauk house does. The mid-century abode is about 20 feet too close to the precipice of some serious breathtakingly steep bluffs. No worries though, the East End performer won’t be “Slip Slidin’ Away” anytime soon, except on stage. The 12-time Grammy Award winner, who kicks off his 17-city summer concert tour in St. Augustine, Florida in June, has filed a permit to move the mid-century house back several feet. Hopefully the work will be done before he’s “Homeward Bound” again at the end of the month.
Everyone who’s ever run into Michael J. Fox in and around Quogue knows that he’s a gentleman and a scholar. That’s even truer now that he’s been on the receiving end of an honorary degree from Stony Brook University. The multiple Emmy Award-winning actor, activist, philanthropist and producer was handed a doctor of fine arts during the school’s 57th commencement program earlier this month, in recognition of his tireless work on behalf of his Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Speaking of scholarly achievements, Sag Harbor author Colson Whitehead has earned two big-time honors for his latest book, “Underground Railroad.” He was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the tome, which has also been optioned by “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins for a limited series on Amazon. Additionally, the East End resident has earned a spot on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.
Also on that list is Springs-based artist Cindy Sherman. Known for her conceptual photographic role-play self portraits, her work on attacking sexism and society’s harsh take on the aging process in her “Society Portraits” has been making big waves of late.
As Vogue editor-in-chief, and British Dame to boot, Anna Wintour is a woman who is most certainly familiar with all things society, as well as the harshness with which the fairer sex are viewed through the public lens. The Mastic Beach resident, who has been covering and making the news for decades is once again the subject of a dramatic endeavor. This time it’s less about Prada and more about Kimye, as “Ryan Raftery Is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion,” starring cabaret entertainer Ryan Raftery, stages in New York. The soapy spoof pokes gentle fictional fun of what might have happened behind the scenes when Ms. Wintour made the decision to put Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of Vogue’s April 2014 issue.
Another juicy read, just perfect for the ol’ beach bag this summer is Ann Brashares’ latest novel, “The Whole Thing Together,” which is set in the Hamptons. In what’s sure to be a big seller, especially out here on the East End, this time the “Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants” author and frequent South Fork visitor places her characters in a stately home on the shore of Georgica Pond.
A good setting plays a key role in Mark Consuelos’s new acting and producing gigs as well. The Southampton resident has just been cast as the father of Veronica on season two of the hit teen television drama “Riverdale,” which is a modern-day lens- turned-darkly on the Archie Comics gang. The busy entertainer is also executive producing the new docuseries “Fire Island,” with his wife, Kelly Ripa.
