The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson; produced by Bonnie Grice; Directed by Joan Lyons. This is the story of Helen Keller, born in 1880 in late Victorian America, after the Civil War. In the first months of her life she lived normally, until she was struck by a strange fever. It left her blind and deaf. Helen’s parents luckily found Annie Sullivan, a young woman fresh out of a school for the blind in Boston, who was able to bring Helen the life-altering gift of language. Helen morphed from an angry, lonely, young girl into someone full of hope with an unbounded excitement to learn. Southampton Cultural Center, www.scc-arts.org
