What’s New In The Hamptons

There are some things that will never change in the Hamptons, but there is always room for something new to add to the long list of reasons people love to live and visit here. New restaurants are a given each summer season. Events, parties, and galas return, hoping to offer something a little different than the year before to attract new guests. Hamptons shopping is some of the most fun. Staying active is a top priority, as well as trying new experiences. There are a lot of new businesses making their way out east this summer. Here is a glimpse at just a few of the things we are looking forward to enjoying…

New shops have popped up just before the start of the summer season. Sag Harbor in particular is experiencing a swell in new businesses opening. Sunny is a lifestyle store on Main Street stocking clothing and accessories for women, along with small home décor pieces. Owner Megan Chiarello’s original clothing line, Leallo, will be represented alongside other local designers. WildSide will open two doors down as a luxury boutique selling an eclectic mix of fashions for women. Ryland Life Equipment on Madison Street outfits men in contemporary casual apparel, also offering timeless home accessories, apothecary, and pop-up art installations in a thoughtfully curated space. White’s Apothecary has expanded to a third location in the village now as well, occupying the former Harbor Books space.

After a short closing of her bookstore, Harbor Books, while moving locations in Sag Harbor, owner Taylor Rose Berry has opened a reimagined version of her business now on Division Street. Berry and Co. will feature a highly curated selection of new release books and vintage classics, botanicals, fresh specialty coffee, Dobra Tea, and unique gifts. The shop will occupy the second floor of 51 Division Street in the same building that is home to the Sag Harbor Baking Company and Jack’s Coffee.

Southampton will also be home to new shops, including Brooks Brothers opening in a new location, Charleston Shoe Co., touting versatile shoes that take women from cobblestones to cocktails, and British retailer FatFace, which also has a new location in Greenport and carries a selection of casual wear for men, women, and children.

For those looking to work on their summer body, or just get in overall shape, New York Pilates is expanding their results-driven programming from locations in New York City to a second location on the East End, set to open in Southampton this summer. Along with their current Montauk location, Hamptons clients can sculpt their best form and strengthen their core in 55-minute classes.

New places to stay and play offer a different way to enjoy the Hamptons between rentals and invites to friends’ homes. Experience nature in a luxurious fashion with Terra Glamping in East Hampton. The camping resort on Gardiners Bay in Cedar Point County Park is the ideal getaway for families, friends, couples, and even corporate retreats.

“The experience allows people to unplug, escape the hustle and bustle of the city and experience nature, but be as comfortable as you would in a beautiful fully furnished hotel,” says CEO and co-founder Rebecca Martin. “It is also an outdoor adventure, as we offer plenty of programming and activities for guests, including complimentary paddleboards and kayaks to take out on the Bay, sunrise yoga, movie nights, live music, nightly campfires, and more.”

Formerly Montauk Yacht Club, the revamped space now known as Gurney’s Star Island Resort and Marina underwent a major renovation and will now be open for the first time this summer as the Hamptons’ newest luxury waterfront retreat. A new restaurant, Showfish, helmed by chef Jeremy Blutstein will feature a locally sourced menu with seafood caught daily and fresh produce prepared on display at the restaurant’s “vegetable butchery.” The restaurant’s bar will complement the food offerings, focusing on a sustainability aspect and highlighting local ingredients. The revamping also maintained a marine aesthetic true to the brand’s coastal origin, led by designer Stella Abdoulin. A neutral color palette and maritime elements are found throughout the 107 guest rooms and public spaces.

“Montauk is a market that is important to us personally and professionally, and we are thrilled to unveil a second location that extends the Gurney’s experience out to Star Island while introducing a new type of stay in the marina setting,” said owner George Filopoulos of Metrovest in a press release. “The opening of Gurney’s Star Island is a testament to the growth of our brand, and we are committed to delivering an unparalleled resort lifestyle that appeals to hotel guests, visitors and locals alike.”

Those with an eye and love for interior design will have just a short while to explore the modern home furnishings of Room and Board this summer at their pop-up on Newtown Lane in East Hampton. The 6,000-square-foot space will house beautiful home settings, offering inspiration and shopping for modern and coastal living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, outdoor decks and patios and more.

There are scores of restaurants opening all across the Hamptons serving all ranges of cuisine from casual takeout to fine dining. Every day there is something new to explore in the Hamptons when taking a break from long afternoons at the beach or on the boat, rounds of golf and tennis, evening soirées and feel-good fundraisers, and so much more that continue to define the South Fork landscape. It’s truly an adult summer playground. Of course, there are always new homes coming to the Hamptons real estate market, too. High inventory is working in the buyer’s favor, making now an ideal time to make a move and be in place to enjoy all of what the East End seasons have to offer.
