Timeless By Design

For Emma Corner, the founder of Emma Corner Interiors, the brief was as much about what to leave out as what to include — a quiet restraint that runs through every room, every material choice, and every carefully considered detail. The result is a home that is deeply livable without sacrificing refinement, designed for large family gatherings and long summer evenings without ever feeling decorated. What follows is a conversation with the designer about the vision, the process, and the details that gave this particular house its distinctive, unhurried character.

Hamptons Real Estate Showcase: Can you please tell us about your design vision for this home?

Emma Corner: We wanted this home to feel effortless, quietly luxurious, deeply comfortable, and beautifully layered. Every decision was made with the intention of creating a home that felt timeless rather than trend driven, where rich textures and honest materials speak for themselves.

Throughout the home we introduced understated moments of luxury: a bespoke headboard upholstered in exquisite Loro Piana fabric, horsehair sconces framing the living room fireplace, artful mirrors, and custom sculptural seating.  The consistent wood paneling, with unlacquered brass and concrete elements throughout the home provide a warm architectural backdrop, allowing the home’s extraordinary art collection to bring personality and depth to every room.

It was a wonderfully collaborative journey. My client embraced the process wholeheartedly, and together we incorporated several of her treasured vintage chairs, giving them a new life within a more contemporary setting. Those personal pieces are often what make a house truly feel like home.

Had you worked with the client before? How did you guide them?

This project began through a referral from friends, and over the years our professional relationship has grown into a cherished friendship. The homeowners have been incredible supporters of my work and I will always be grateful for the trust they placed in me.

From our very first meeting, we shared the same vision. There was an immediate sense of alignment that allowed the design to evolve naturally. Rather than rushing decisions, we carefully built upon the home’s foundation, designing many bespoke pieces along the way, including a large, lacquered coffee table that now sits at the heart of the living room; a place where family and friends naturally gather.

How would you describe the furnishings and palette of this home?

The palette is soft, muted, and intentionally restrained, inspired by the timeless elegance of a modern Hamptons beach house. The furnishings combine beautifully crafted contemporary pieces with carefully selected vintage designs, including iconic Wagner and Platner chairs, creating a home that feels collected rather than decorated.

Custom indoor/outdoor rugs soften the spaces while adding practicality, and natural materials throughout bring warmth and texture. Every room feels calm and inviting, with each piece chosen to contribute to the overall harmony of the home.

What was your greatest design challenge working on this project?

Truthfully, this was one of those projects where everything simply fell into place. My client trusted the process from beginning to end, allowing every decision to be thoughtful rather than hurried. There were no impossible deadlines, the site was always accessible, and we had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional builder who cared deeply about craftsmanship.

Looking back, this project became the foundation of Emma Corner Interiors. It shaped the way we approach design today and remains one of the projects I hold closest to my heart. I will always be incredibly grateful to this client for believing in me from the very beginning.

Can you share a small design detail from this project with a big impact?

The Arrow pendants in the entrance hall are perhaps the perfect example of how a single detail can define a space. They required extensive scaffolding and meticulous installation, but the result was worth every effort. They create a striking first impression and can be admired from the moment you approach the house.

Ultimately, though, it is the consistency of the details throughout the home that gives it its quiet confidence. Nothing feels forced, nothing is over-decorated, and every element has been considered with purpose. It is a home that whispers rather than shouts—tailored, timeless, and designed to be lived in beautifully.
