Summer weekends bring a steady stream of houseguests, long dinners and farm-stand hauls, while the quieter months turn the same room into a warm retreat. For years, Hamptons kitchens leaned light and breezy, with crisp whites and coastal blues that nodded to the beach. It’s a beautiful, classic look, but it’s not the only one that belongs out east.

At Bakes & Kropp, we’re finding more of our Hamptons clients are asking for something warmer: richer woods, natural stone and warm metals that feel collected rather than seasonal. The goal is a kitchen that works as hard in February as it does in August. One of our most recent waterfront renovations shows how gracefully that balance can be struck, even within a compact footprint.
In collaboration with Laura Nigro of Vibrant Hue Designs, our senior designer Guillaume Dupré set out to create a kitchen built on warmth and texture that feels just as welcoming on a gray winter afternoon as it does at a July dinner party. The homeowners wanted a space that stood apart without sacrificing everyday function, and they had an ambitious wish list for a tight floor plan: a four-seat island, two under-counter refrigeration drawers and a 40″ freezer. Rather than fight the floor plan, we let storage and appliance needs lead the layout, then chose materials that would make the room feel generous.
At the center of the room, Copper Dune leathered quartzite runs across the counters and island, and climbs the wall as a full backsplash to meet one of our classic barrel range hoods, finished with a lacquered brass apron. Its rust tones pick up the wood, and a leathered finish is more forgiving of fingerprints and water spots than a polished one. Lacquered polished brass hardware from Armac Martin’s Gaumont Collection ties the metals together.

Our Revelane Collection wraps the perimeter in Pearl Oak, an opalescent finish that reads soft and light without being stark white. Center panels from our Canterbury Collection, stained in deep Chicory Walnut, add contrast and depth. It’s a way to keep the brightness people love in a beach house while giving the room more character.
The island seats four for casual meals under Wage Lighting pendants, and the prep sink sits right at the window. Two pull-out appliance compartments and an appliance garage with under-cabinet lighting flank the range to keep counters clear, while a Sub-Zero refrigerator on the opposite wall holds its own against the toasted palette.
For homeowners planning a renovation out east, our advice is to start with how you live, not how a Hamptons kitchen is supposed to look. Choose materials that will feel right in every season and for years to come. Coastal style can be a reference point without being a rule, and the most memorable kitchens are the ones that feel distinctly their own.
