Broker Showcase – Gene Stilwell of Town & Country Real Estate

HRES: You have been with Town & Country for some time now as Executive Sales Manager. You are a top producer, and your office is very successful; how do you do it?
GS: Well, I was very fortunate that when I came on board almost three years ago I inherited a great group of seasoned professionals and combined with their expertise and my 32 years of experience it was simply a winning combination! We have added considerably more agents since my arrival.

HRES: Spotlight Listing -Tell us about one of your favorite listings?
GS: So excited to be representing this spectacular Sagaponack South home that truly speaks for itself. Perfect for entertaining with family and friends and just a block from the ocean. An impressive blend of clean modern amenities with traditional architecture all in the most sought after location South of Daniel’s Lane.

HRES: Town & Country may look like a smaller brokerage firm but they clearly compete well with the corporates and they have a great roster of agents. Why is that?
GS: Actually, Town and Country is NOT a smaller brokerage firm. We are the third largest real estate company on the East End and the North Fork. And, THE largest privately owned real estate firm in the Hamptons. Our ability to tackle issues, creative marketing and hands-on accessibility to our brokers is unmatched. At Town & Country we have a unique blend of highly energized associates who work in harmony with each other in this highly competitive business. The office culture is one cooperative competition.

HRES: You’re co-founder of the non-profit children’s theater company STAGES, how did that come about and why?
GS: My wife, Helene Leonard, and I met doing professional theater over 38 years ago. Her Father, Jerry Leonard, was a well-known Children’s Theater Director and when we moved to the Hamptons, Helene wanted to continue his legacy. We both have theater in our blood, as I started my theatrical career at the ripe old age of twelve. So, it just seemed the obvious thing to do… to start our non-profit children’s theater “STAGES”, which proudly preforms out of the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, New York. After twenty years as President of STAGES and Helene as Artistic Director, we now boast many of our young thespians working in theater all over the world…including Broadway!

HRES: Thinking back, if you did not take that month long vacation in the Hamptons where do you think your life would be right now?
GS: In La Jolla!
