Famed “White House” in East Hampton Lists for $12.5M

The house at 6 Woods Lane in East Hampton — which sits right on the corner between Woods Lane and Main Street just before entering the village’s main strip — has come on the market for the first time in 30 years. The house is available for $12.5 million.

Sited on nearly 3 acres of land, buyers will get a Georgian-style home spanning 7,615 square feet in size with seven bedrooms and six full baths. Fred Mengoni, a late real estate developer who passed away last year, bought the home in 1989 and took four years to renovate it, gutting the interiors and breathing new life into the home that dates back all the way to the early 1700s.

Features include heated marble floors throughout the main level, multiple fireplaces, a rosewood paneled library, and a finished lower level with amenities like a wet bar, sauna, and wine cellar. Outside, homeowners will enjoy a heated gunite pool, pool house, tennis court, and a three-car garage. There’s also a cherry tree and a fountain, adding character to the already iconic property.

According to the New York Times, Mengoni hardly ever stayed at his East Hampton property over the time that he owned it, but was instead “known to drop by at 5 a.m. to collect his bicycle for a morning ride.”
