Grey Gardens Carriage House Sold

The original Grey Gardens carriage house, built in 1896, has sold for $8.5 million. The historic property in the Georgica section of East Hampton came on the market for the first time in over 50 years this past January. Originally listed at $9.5 million, it eventually was reduced to $8.95 million and a contract was signed in August.

The carriage house was once a part of the Grey Gardens estate, made famous by the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens profiling Big Edie and Little Edie Beale, relatives of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The Grey Gardens main home was sold last year for $15.5 million, but the carriage house was separate from the original estate.

The Joseph Greenleaf designed carriage house has 3,500 square feet and had been fully updated with five bedrooms and four baths. It also features fully hedged grounds with 45 ft heated pool and detached 2-car garage. The residence is currently 3,516 sq ft. Zoning allows expansion to 5,511 sq ft plus full finished lower level.
