Mel Brooks’ Former Oceanfront Hamptons Retreat Now In Contract

The oceanfront cottage that once belonged to famed actor and filmmaker Mel Brooks came on the market back in March of 2018 for just a pinch under $12 million. By October, the Water Mill home had cut its price down to $11.5 million — and as of earlier this month, the home is now in contract, reports Behind the Hedges. Brooks purchased the quaint 2,000-square-foot beach house back in 2000 with his late wife Anne Bancroft for $3 million before he sold the home in 2010 for $5.3 million. Four years later, it sold again for $9 million. A contract has been signed, but the final sales price won’t be revealed until the deal is closed. It’s likely that the home will unfortunately be torn down, but if buyers are interested in keeping the existing structure, it has a fireplace, an open floorplan, hardwood floors throughout, and sliders that open out to the oceanview porch. Amagansett Dunes Beach House Right On The Ocean Wants $15M

A relatively modest beach house in Amagansett spanning 3,000 square feet in size on 1.73 acres of oceanfront land has recently come on the market for $15 million. While the shingled cottage itself is quite modest, the property value of nearly 2 acres in the Amagansett Dunes right on the ocean is what’s putting this property at its multimillion-dollar price point. According to the Compass listing, the home was originally built in 1903 by “a local carpenter as a wedding gift for his daughter.” Features include ocean views from every room, a legal third-floor ensuite guest room, twin fireplaces in the living room, hardwood floors throughout, a wraparound deck, an eat-in kitchen, and an outdoor shower outside. Outside, there’s a private walkway down to the beach, and the property is surrounded by Atlantic Avenue Town Park’s nature reserve. Located at 169 Atlantic Avenue, residents will be about 2 miles from Amagansett’s Main Street. Ed and James Petrie from Compass Real Estate represent the property. [Compass]
