Realty Check – Latest Hamptons Real Estate News

Tick Talk
Iconic talk show host Dick Cavett is finally letting go of his beloved Montauk compound, Tick Hall. The Stanford White-designed oceanfront property is one of what are known as the “Seven Sisters:” the shingled homes of the Montauk Association. The now 135-year-old house burned down in 1997 but was rebuilt to its exact replica by Cavett and his then wife, the late actress Carrie Nye. The seven-bedroom house sits on 19 acres replete with a freshwater pond, and boasts 900 feet on the Atlantic. It is also bordered by 170 acres of oceanfront parkland. Guests in the home, which Cavett has called “magical,” have included Woody Allen, Mick Jagger and Robert Redford. Corcoran’s Karen Kelley and Tim Davis have the listing.

Oceanfront Paradise
Another of the Hamptons’ priciest listings also happens to be in Montauk. The 36-acre oceanfront spread, owned by antique frame restorer Eli Wilner, is no stranger to the market, having been listed in 2010 at $50M and again in 2015 at $49.995M. The current price is not much reduced at $48M. The three-level Asian-inspired residence with five bedrooms and four baths is surrounded by a private reserve and overlooks the sea from a high bluff. Its sandy beach is a rarity among the hamlet’s stone beaches. Listed by Martha Gundersen at Brown Harris Stevens.

All Aboard
History buffs take note. A house built in 1639 has come on the market. That means it’s just celebrated its 378th birthday. Not only that, it was built from the wood of a ship and is still held together by wooden pegs. Don’t believe it? Just ask the folks at the East Hampton Historical Society. BTW, the wood is numbered. That’s so if there was a shipwreck the rescuers would know how to put the pieces back together. The provenance of the property, can be traced back to its original owners. The tiny abode may be only 1,100 square feet, but it sits on 2.3 acres of land. Better yet, for those with a gene for farming, it comes with an operating farm stand. Ann Marie Pallister and Justin Agnello of Douglas Elliman Real Estate share the listing.

ON THE MARKET
The adopted twins of murdered financier Ted Ammon have finally put the family home on the market. And it’s about time. Ammon was slain in the East Hampton house in 2001 and his wife’s boyfriend, Daniel Pelosi, was convicted of the murder. The 7,000-sf house at 59 Middle Lane features six bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a solarium, library, gourmet kitchen, gym, heated pool, and pool house. Judi Desiderio of Town & Country has the listing. $12.7M

Black is the New Grey
Architectural Digest has featured the Sag Harbor home of “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo. The actress worked with interior designer Estee Stanley, a principal of Los Angeles firm Hancock Design, and her partner Brigette Romanek, whose clients include Rachel Zoe and Pompeo’s former TV flame, Patrick Dempsey. Stanley has a Hamptons home. In a modern twist, both the interior walls and the home’s exterior were painted black. “It’s decorated in a way that’s a fresh look compared to those Hamptons places that all look like they’re owned by 60-year-old Hamptons billionaires, with the shingles and the light columns,” Pompeo told the magazine. “They all put me to sleep.”

Ch Ch Changes
Town & Country Real Estate has a new team. The Tomich-Kabot Team is comprised of PGA Golf Pro Robert Tomich, who has over $70M in real estate sales transactions under his belt, and Linda Kabot, who served for 14 years in Southampton Town government, including eight years as an elected official: Town Supervisor and Councilwoman. In addition to her expertise in zoning and land use permit regulations, Linda has in-depth experience with sales, rentals, subdivisions, variances, wetlands permits, building construction, appraisal and contract negotiations.

Long term Hamptons and Manhattan resident Peter Faucetta Sr. has had his fingers to the pulse of luxury real estate in both areas for more than 20 years. His A-list clientele makes him a natural for Bespoke Real Estate, the firm he has just joined.

And The Award Goes To…
Oscar-winning screenwriter, director and producer, Akiva Goldsman, best known for “I, Robot”, “The Da Vinci Code” and “A Beautiful Mind” is selling his 1.2-acre Meadow Lane property for $6M. Mark Greenwald of Saunders & Associates is listing this property. Built in 1991, the Cape Cod-style beach house boasts a living room with super tall floor to ceiling windows and panoramic Shinnecock Bay views. The Hollywood hotshot, who is also selling his 3.5-acre Beverly Hills estate for $12.5M, is currently working on several projects including a sequel to “I Am Legend.”
