Most Expensive House In The U.S. Hits the Market

The Chartwell estate in Los Angeles has once again hit the market, with an asking price of $245 million, making it the most expensive residence in the United States. At this cost, the sale would beat that of David Geffen’s former home in Malibu, which was won for a comparatively paltry $85 million in May 2017.

The home was built in 1933 by architect Sumner Spaulding, who also designed Harold Lloyd’s famous Greenacres Estate in Beverly Hills. In the 1960s, the sprawling French neoclassical house was famously used for exterior shots of the Clampett residence on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Featuring 25,000 square feet of living space, the enormous home is nestled on a 10-acre lot with carefully sculpted gardens, fountains, grassy lawns, and a 75-foot swimming pool.

The property is listed with Jeff Hyland, Drew Fenton and Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland; Joyce Rey, Jade Mills and Alexandra Allen of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury; and Drew Gitlin and Susan Gitlin of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
