Montauk Oceanfront Home of Late Playwright Edward Albee Sells for $16M

The oceanfront Montauk estate of late award-winning playwright, Edward Albee, has sold for $16 million after about nine months on the sales market.

Spanning nearly 3 acres, the property at 320 Old Montauk Highway went up for sale with a $20 million asking price back in July 2018. Albee — whose works include The Sandbox and Who’s Afraif of Virginia Woolf? — purchased the home back in the ’60s, but when he passed away in September 2016, the title went to the Edward F. Albee Foundation. He even wrote the Pulitzer-Prize winning Seascape from the second-floor oceanview office.

The existing house offers almost 3,000 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, two half-baths, and ocean views throughout. Also on the property sits a guest house, a pool house, a pool, and a tennis court, plus 200 feet of direct ocean frontage.

Douglas Elliman agent Paul Brennan represented the sellers.
