The Iron Man’s East Hampton abode, the historic 1885 Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage, is a whimsical ode to his and wife Susan Downey’s “adventurous aesthetic tastes,” according to Architectural Digest on whose December cover the house was featured.

The actor and his producer wife knew they “wanted something we haven’t seen a million times,” so they enlisted the help of  designer Joe Nahem and his team at New York City’s Fox-Nahem Associates to help them find the property, renovate and furnish it.

Fittingly, at the entrance to the “magical Hamptons compound” is a sculpture of a humongous praying mantis. In an amusing video on AD’s website is one of the Downey’s two kids’ bathrooms, “everybody’s favorite room for some reason,” where the bathtub wall is lined in round pink, black and white tiles: “Like a box of Good & Plenty,” according to Robert. Perhaps most fun is a quirky wall atop the fireplace made by ceramic artist Peter Lane.
