The Team Experience

HRES TALKS WITH BRIAN A. BUCKHOUT AND TYLER Q. MATTSON OF COMPASS

Brian and Tyler have a combined 31 years in real estate and a lifetime of Hamptons experience. Before joining Compass they were consistently among the top teams for Douglas Elliman culminating with becoming the #1 team in East Hampton with nearly $70,000,000 in sales for 2014.

Being lifelong residents, Brian and Tyler share a deep respect for the area and are well versed in all things Hamptons.

HRES: How did you get your start in Real Estate and why COMPASS?

TM: I got my start at Douglas Elliman in 2001. Brian and I built up our business and personal brand over the last 15 years there and made the jump to Compass this past November. The move was prompted for several reasons. First and foremost the philosophy of Compass to be on the cutting edge of real estate marketing and technology. In addition the opportunity to help build a new brand in the Hamptons from the ground up was super exciting.

BB: I started 16 years ago and remained at the same firm until Compass came around. It was nice to see a firm revolutionizing the industry that has pretty much remained the same with the exception of the advent of the internet. Compass is very forward thinking and getting in on the ground floor was a very exciting proposition.

HRES: What are both your business philosophies?

TM: Buying, selling or renting a home is a huge decision and we treat every customer and client with that in mind. We understand how important this process is and in turn we take our role very seriously and do everything we can to make it an enjoyable process for our clients.

BB: Customer service is paramount. Whether a client is selling a $500,000 house or a $5,000,000 house, it probably still represents one of their greatest assets and they should both be treated with the same care.

HRES: Bragging rights… Tell us about one of your current listings?

TM: We have a great range of listings right now from starter beach houses to high end luxury. Right now we are marketing some exceptional properties that are more on the modern style architecture. It’s a departure from the standard traditonal hamptons home and they have been very well received.

BB: Tyler and I have a good inventory of Modern homes in East Hampton and Sagaponack… It’s nice to see something a little different than a traditional or a Gambrel.

HRES: What is both of your favorite summertime activity in the Hamptons?

TM: Surfing when there are waves and beach time with my wife and son.

BB: Spending time with my fiancé when we can both get the time off. Going to the beach or catching some live music outdoors.

HRES: If you could both have one super human power, what would it be?

TM: I’d love to be able to teleport myself anywhere in the world. I’d get a morning surf in in Indonesia and be back in time for my afternoon appointment. Haha

BB: Hmmm… the ability to read someone’s mind… It would certainly make negotiating a lot easier!
