Chris Burnside of Brown Harris Stevens
Chris Burnside of Brown Harris Stevens is set to host the 2024 Holiday House Hamptons Designer Showhouse at his newest construction project in Bridgehampton. This summer event will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. HRES spoke with Chris about the property and his involvement with the BCRF Designer Showhouse.

HRES: Could you share your decision-making process behind hosting the annual designer event, Holiday House Hamptons?
Chris Burnside: The decision-making process was challenging, primarily due to the constraints of a tight schedule and the extensive coordination required among various designers. Despite these pressures, the project represents an extraordinary cause that benefits The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I’m filled with enthusiasm and pride to be involved and honored that Holiday House Hamptons and their Designer Showhouse as well as the presenting sponsor Brown Harris Stevens chose my property for this event. It’ll be exciting to see how these top designers will envision each space of the home. This house is not just a structure; it’s a labor of love and a testament to innovative design, making it truly exceptional and a delight to hand over to someone who will appreciate its unique qualities. HRES: What inspired the design and architectural elements for 4 Windy Hill Lane?
CB: The architectural design began as a minimalist farmhouse vision, inspired by a curated collection of photographs depicting residences that resonated with my personal taste. The unique characteristics of the site itself played a pivotal role in shaping the design as well. It’s the incorporation of modern features that truly distinguishes this home, infusing it with a distinctive character. The expansive glass walls blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, creating an immersive experience that makes one feel as though they are part of the natural landscape.
HRES: Can you provide more details about the property’s layout and amenities?
CB: The property is incredible, inside and out, featuring everything you’d want in a premier resort and more. A sprawling 10,000+ sf home on 1.16 perfectly manicured acres with rows of elegantly planted specimen trees and ornamental plantings. It’s further enhanced by a sunken tennis/pickleball court, seamlessly integrated into the meticulously landscaped grounds, waterfall pool and spa, 2,500+/- square foot Turkish marble terrace (it’s truly stunning) with a covered, state-of-the-art outdoor kitchen and lounging area. The outdoor amenities are matched by the interior’s grandeur, which showcases a striking three-sided glass fireplace, walls of glass, and a sleek metal floating staircase (a touch of industrial chic). The design is a testament to modern architecture.

HRES: Are there any unique features that this property offers?
CB: 4 Windy Hill Lane is one of the first of only seven new luxury estates in the private community of Windy Hill. The community is surrounded by reserve, open space, and have an equestrian theme. It is truly an amazing property with complete privacy priced below everything else available.
HRES: Are there any unique or innovative design choices that differentiate it from similar properties in Bridgehampton?
CB: 4 Windy Hill Lane (and the other homes in this community) stands out due to its exceptional quality and distinctive design, setting a new benchmark for residential architecture in the Hamptons. It features a tennis or pickleball court, a luxury amenity that has become increasingly hard to find. The apple and pear orchard are also an amenity one would have a difficult time finding anywhere else. The combination of thoughtful design, high-quality construction, and its sought-after features contribute to its uniqueness, making it a coveted choice for those seeking a blend of elegance and an active lifestyle.
HRES: In terms of sustainability and energy efficiency, what measures were incorporated into the construction of this home?
CB: In addition to the solar panels, which are a cornerstone of the home’s sustainability features, generating ample electricity to power the entire residence, the house is designed with meticulous attention to energy efficiency. The interior walls are fully insulated, for thermal retention, and soundproofing, creating a serene and quiet environment. The use of high-efficiency boilers, state-of-the-art radiant heating, and LED lighting further enhances its eco-friendly credentials. These elements work in concert to ensure that the home is not only comfortable but also operates with a reduced environmental footprint, making it a model of modern efficiency.
