Deeply Rooted in Service – Maria Cunneen

“Every day is Monday for me.”

That’s what Compass broker Maria Cunneen tells every client when they call – on weekends, nights, Sundays, holidays. Maria’s response comes from a place of deep service to her clients, from a belief that she can nurture, educate and help her clients through their real estate transactions to a better, brighter time in their lives.

Where does her calling come from? Maria explains that she was born and raised in Blue Point, not so far from Westhampton, the youngest in a family of six. “When you’re the youngest of six kids, you’ve got to listen.” Listening has been the linchpin of Maria’s career successes: first in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, and now in the luxury real estate market. As a Radiographer specializing in Mammography, CT Scanning, Trauma and Special procedures, Maria listened with compassion and understanding to her patients. She brings the same empathy to her real estate clients, listening to issues and suggesting solutions that are outside the box – as well as practical. “I listen. Not being loud has worked for me professionally. I do what I do and I’m very efficient.” It’s this quiet attention to needs and wants that sets Maria apart from other brokers. Personally, and professionally, she has developed a large circle. “90% of my business comes from repeat customers, they become my friends,” says Maria. She’s deeply committed to her community, volunteering and local charities. Maria has 4 children and it goes without saying that she is very involved in fundraising (Chair of local CF Events) and other activities.  

Transitioning from healthcare to real estate in Westhampton 20 years ago didn’t prove to be a stumbling block for Maria. “I have deep roots in Blue Point where I grew up,” she states. “The transition to living and working in Westhampton in 1999 was easy. Blue Point is much like Westhampton — nautical, beachy and friendly.” In 2016, Maria left Corcoran and became the founding broker of the Compass office in Westhampton Beach.

And the “Cunneen Team” is much the same as their leader, with backgrounds in teaching and other service industries. Four years ago, Maria teamed up with veteran real estate broker Jill Kandell, who has close to 30 years experience in the marketplace. Together, they anchor a team of five women, each with a breadth of knowledge deeply rooted in service to others. “That commitment to service,” says Maria about her team, “it’s the ace in the hole.” Together, the Cunneen team completed 34 sales transactions and 16 rental transactions by the end of 2021 – with 2 deals still in the pipeline for 2022. “I treat my clients the same way I treated my patients,” explains Maria. “I’ve had great personal and professional success that way.”
