When Pete Moore, the owner of Local Knit, speaks, images of iconic East End landmarks drift across one’s mind. He does not just speak with unequivocal passion for Montauk, Greenport, and the two Long Island Forks, but with pure awe. “There are just these small little things that add up to a very unique experience.
Located at the easternmost tip of Long Island’s South Fork, Montauk Point or “The End” as the locals call it is surrounded by water on three sides from the Atlantic Ocean to Block Island Sound. The Montauk Point Lighthouse stands upon a 68-foot-high bluff overlooking the rocky shorelines of these two bodies of water as the waves wrap around the point.
Moving is a process that can be stressful unless you find the right moving company. My family and I just moved and from personal experience, hiring a reputable company like Liberty Moving was the right choice. I was so happy with their level of service that I offered to interview Anthony Federico, one of the owners who handles the residential side of the family business.
outhampton painter Dinah Maxwell Smith’s brush seems to be loaded with a smidgen of nostalgia along with oil paints. Her many beachscapes peopled with sunbathers could have captured a moment at any time in the past century. A master at portraying the interplay of bright light and deep shadow, she uses rich saturated colors to make her paintings “sing.”
As you drive past East Hampton’s Village Pond you might not notice a discreet hedge-enshrouded Tudor edifice on the other side of Montauk Highway. Not only is there a posh inn behind the stucco walls and mullioned windows, but there’s also a luxurious spa replete with an “endless” swimming pool, steam shower and Frette linens to encircle you during your massage or facial.

In a land where we play an annual game of musical shops and restaurants each new season, it’s always fun to see which businesses have survived, which have bitten the proverbial dust, and which brave new souls are willing to risk our beloved South Fork’s seasonal fluctuations and high...
East End painter, sculptor, and furniture designer Jeff Muhs was born and raised in Southampton. His early interests in art were encouraged by his parents, Captain Fred [artist and third generation hunting & fishing guide] and Geraldine Muhs.
The Shinnecock Canal, which first opened in 1892, is a man-made waterway that cuts through the South Fork in the eastern part of Hampton Bays, connecting the Great Peconic Bay to Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It is both a geographical and cultural divide, separating the Hamptons into “east of the canal” from Shinnecock Hills out to Montauk and “west of the canal,” from Hampton Bays to West Hampton Dunes.”
Geoff Kuzara, who grew up on a small subsistence farm at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, still lives part of the year in that state while also residing in the Hamptons. Having spent his childhood with drill presses, lathes, welders, farm machinery, and livestock learning the basics of engineering and fabrication, it’s no wonder he’s gone on to produce hundreds of wheel-thrown stoneware pieces, dozens of chairs, tables, benches, custom furnishings, and countless small sculptures from multiple materials.
