The Goal Is Right In The Name

Breakfasts in Montauk could go in a few directions. The classic go-to is John’s Pancake House, where you can fill up on a hearty diner breakfast for a good price and learn all about commercial fishing from the local fisherman sitting next to you at the bar before you’ve even finished your first cup of coffee. On the exact opposite end of the breakfast spectrum is Happy Bowls, a healthy cafe with acai bowls filled with superfoods and nutrients, and priced a bit higher.

And then somewhere in between, both geographically and in its personality, is Naturally Good: a cafe located right on Montauk’s Main Street, offering a variety of options for breakfast and lunch.

The spot has the personality of a local, family-owned cafe, but serves the quality of food that you’d expect from an expensive brunch spot. It boasts the type of food that one might find at a high-profile market, but is more concerned with its customers and the food that it serves than conforming to a certain aesthetic.

Naturally Good puts their product first and has something for everyone — from organic smoothies and homemade soups to vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free plates. But in addition to its cafe and coffee bar, the store sells a variety of groceries, vitamins, and even natural and organic cleaning products — so it can literally be a one-stop shop for both a morning coffee run and groceries to bring back home.

Founded in 1985, the goal is right in the name: they want to bring food and products to Montauk that are Naturally Good. According to their website, the cafe is the brainchild of Lauren Katz, who has a masters degree in nutrition and dietetics from NYU, and Andrea Mavro, a chef that received a degree in culinary arts from the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City in addition to a degree from Cornell. Between the two of them, it’s safe to say that the cafe aims to deliver local, organic foods that fuel those who consume it in a healthy and sustainable way.

Easy to locate, Naturally Good cafe has a bright orange awning outside its 779 Montauk Highway storefront, and even offers outdoor seating in the back, making it a perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat with a friend before heading to the beach for the day. The cafe opens up shop every day at 7 am and closes at 5 pm, except on Fridays and Saturdays when it’s open for an extra hour until 6 pm.
