Featured on this month’s front cover is an exquisite Hamptons estate in Wainscott, presented for the first time by Lori Schiaffino of Compass. Designed and built by master builder Jeffrey Collé, the home is influenced by his passion for old-world design from the French and Italian countryside. Paying homage to the Hamptons of yesteryear, this privately situated estate lies behind manicured hedges with lushly landscaped grounds. The ultimate in quality construction and custom features are on full display the moment you arrive. Cared for and maintained by the original owner, this uncompromising property epitomizes refined Hamptons living, with an effortless floorplan built for entertaining. Every detail of this unique home has been meticulously selected, all to enhance what is truly a significant work of art. Among the many custom design touches by Jeffrey Collé are the mahogany French doors, hand-carved stone tubs, vaulted and coffered ceilings, and the heated 18th-century French stone floors throughout. A world-class estate located moments to sandy beaches and minutes to the best shopping, dining, and entertaining. This unique home represents quintessential Hamptons living at its very finest.

HRES sat down with Lori Schiaffino, the exclusive listing broker, along with the builder, Jeffrey Collé, to find out more about this one-of-a-kind property.

HRES: Lori, this is an amazing listing in the perfect Wainscott location. What else makes this property so appealing?

LS: The architectural integrity of this property is timeless. The interiors are rich in texture and history from the handcrafted stone floors to the 18th-century French stone fireplace which makes it so unique.

HRES: Would you say that this home is a good long-term investment for someone looking for an estate in the Hamptons?

LS: This is a good investment on several levels. The most important is that Jeffrey Collé builds homes to last a lifetime. The quality craftsmanship and functionality are evidenced in every detail of this home. Another reason is the location, the approach down Wainscott Main Street to this property is as bucolic as it gets, with the protected open space and long views of the sea along with its close proximity to the Sea.

HRES: Jeffrey, what was your inspiration for building this magnificent home?

JC: I have been building homes in the Hamptons for over 40 years and although I more frequently build and design new modern transitional homes, I have a true passion for collecting old-world pieces. I spent years in the French and Italian countryside along with other European locations collecting floors, fireplaces, fixtures, and doors to add to my collection. I really enjoy creating spaces that blend the old and the new.

HRES: This home was built in 1990. Have there been upgrades, and if so, can you tell us what they are?

JC: Yes, the smart house technology is continuously upgraded, and the home has been meticulously maintained.

HRES: You have built so many amazing homes over the years. Can you tell us what makes this property special from your point of view?

JC: Thank you! This property was designed and built to complement and capture the heart and soul of Main Street in Wainscott, a beautiful and simple country road.
