Renew and refresh in your luxurious new bathroom. Along with the kitchen, it is the main selling point of the house. Here are some of the latest trends in bath design in the Hamptons and on the North Fork.

 Hampton Design Interiors, Inc. (HDI) in Bridgehampton, owned by Peggy Fruin, features kitchen and bath design. Laura Sanatore, partner at HDI, reflects, “Modern bath design in the Hamptons is monochromatic, simple, and sleek, where less is more.” With neutral tones and no contrast, color can be highlighted in towels and accessories. Tile the walls with longer 8”x12” tile. For the floors and shower walls, white carrara marble tile in a basketweave or herringbone pattern is chic. For a border accent, white thassos with blue celeste marble tile is exquisite. Horizontal tongue-in-groove planks painted white, adds texture to the walls for a more traditional look. Or for a Powder Room, wallpaper the entire room. Sinks are square rather than round, tubs are more linear, and floating vanities are in vogue. Shiny polished chrome or satin nickel finishes for the plumbing, faucets, and the shower body, are eye catching. Overhead recessed lighting, with long lights around the mirror, and a suspension light over the mirror are trendy. The popular trend in bath design, observes Joseph R. LaFace, Jr. of Joseph R. LaFace Construction, Inc., is tiling the entire bathroom with 12”x12” white marble tile from floor to ceiling, including the walls, floors, and shower stall. The latest sink design is a wall-hung vanity off the floor. Man-made white corian is popular for the counter top around double sinks. Polished nickel and polished chrome are sleek for faucet finishes. For more privacy, partition the vanity from the toilet with a tiled knee-wall. Either frameless shower doors with glass right to the tile or splash panels replace shower doors. For the Master Bath, the doorless walk-in shower is chic. Double “his” and “hers” showerheads are fashionable. A recessed niche shelf in the wall of the shower is cool. A platform bathtub surfaced with tile, wainscot, marble, or wood is attractive. Lighting with sconces around the mirror and recessed lighting in the ceiling or a beautiful hung fixture is stylish. Ron Morizzo, owner of Ron Morizzo Kitchens & Baths, Inc. in Cutchogue, exclaims the more traditional style “Beachy Country” is in for bath design on the North Fork. Install beadboard halfway up the wall and paint the rest of the wall in pastel colors. Use crown molding along the perimeter of the ceiling with trim work framing the doors, giving a country feel. Bigger white subway tiles are fashionable surrounding the tub/shower area, duplicated in the floor tile. A blue/gray mosaic of glass and stone tile can be added for an accent. White cabinets are popular and vanities with a non-porous, quartz sink are a big seller. Brushed nickel fixtures are modern, while oil rubbed bronze is more traditional. The frameless glass shower door is chic, while semi-frameless glass sliding doors are cool for the bathtub. The gooseneck or rain showerhead provides a powerful body wash. Recessed lighting above the tub/shower with decorative sconces mounted above the mirror over the sink or alongside the mirror give a warm effect.
