A New Brand Of Living

13-Roberts-RearExterior-1

I can feel the difference stepping into the Modern Barn®. It’s all about the space and light. The luxury elements are in place; the beautiful wood flooring, natural stonework, thick Carrera countertops and the custom cabinetry. A huge glass wall attracts you to the outdoors, and the theatre of nature playing outside. I had the opportunity to speak with Al Giaquinto, the man behind The Modern Barn and owner of Plum Builders.

He explained the philosophy behind this new brand of living, an intersection of modernity and traditional that feels cozy and warm yet open, flexible and fresh. His intent was to create a true ‘living home’ where every room is a ‘living’ room, and the configurations, and style adaptations of the space are limitless. A true visionary for a new generation, Al gave us some insight into the market and some tips for homebuyers to consider.

HRES: What positive changes have you seen in the industry in the last year?
AG: The East End is in a building boom. Spec builders are doing fabulously. Prices have increased. Demand for new homes at every price point is strong.

HRES: What is the most important part of a home?
AG: From a builder’s perspective, I think the most important part of the home is where the family gathers. From a buyer’s perspective, it’s the feeling he/she has when they enter a home. That feeling of “I want to live here” takes a special combination of architect, designer and builder to create.

HRES: What sets Plum apart from other builders?
AG: Plum Builders has been in business since 1982. We’ve constructed hundreds of projects. My background is in finance and I believe in continual professional development at every level. Credentials are important. You want to work with people who are always learning how to do things better. My team is always on the lookout for what’s next in the industry. We use our experience to create improvements at every turn. Along with timing and budget awareness, I have an expert team that seeks counsel when needed, so we stay in top form.

HRES: If you were buying a second home in the Hamptons, what would you look for?
AG: I would be interested in an estate setting because land and space is continued…
