THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE BY STEPHEN CRANE

Published in 1895, The Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane is considered the first great war novel but with surprising anti-war overtones. This powerful story centers on Henry Fleming, a young Union soldier who battles his inner demons as he runs from and eventually faces his greatest fears. Organized by the Estate of Syd Solomon. This exhibition is the first to examine the late painter, Syd Solomon’s work through the lens of his personal archive. Solomon once described himself as an “Abstract Impressionist.” A current cataloguing project of Solomon’s archives has revealed new information that he worked as a camoufleur (designer and implementer of military camouflage) during WWII. Solomon joins a coterie of artists whose wartime experience transformed their art. Free admission.
